Hi there! I'm Kat. I am a happy wife, a creative, a proud homebody, a fine chocolate connoisseur, and a child at heart with a passion for photography, wrinkly babies, and family. I come from a family of creatives, all of whom have supported and encouraged this incredible career. With their love and encouragement, my passion for photography has only grown and has certainly become my most cherished creative outlet.
I am so fortunate that I've been able to do what I love on a daily basis for the past 7 years. I have always had a passion for children. I graduated with a degree in Early Childhood Development, taught Kindergarten, and now, I get to photograph the most wonderful families and little ones here in the low country. My job is one of the best gifts I've ever been given. I consider the privilege to walk alongside your family and children an absolute honor!
Feel free to send me an email over in the contact section, I'd love to get to know you and your family!

This is where all the magic happens! Our cozy studio is calm, bright, and warm. We have lots of different props, colors, and newborn/baby outfits to choose from. The majority of the props and outfits we have are neutral, vintage, light, and simple. We like to highlight baby and all their sweet features.
We are nestled in a quiet area of West Ashley. The Studio is conveniently located off of 61 and I-526. Broom Wagon Coffee is also a very short distance away if you need a little pick me up and some delicious treats along the way! Please remember the studio is by appointment only.

If you haven't noticed yet, there are a ton of wonderful photographers in the Low Country. But why choose me? Aside from the fact that I love EVERYTHING baby and photography, there are a few key things I feel set me apart:
1) Safety and Education
Safety is #1 here at Merriwillow. Your baby is not a prop. He/She is a beautiful human that needs careful handling and posing. I've worked with the best of the best to learn the most important part of newborn and baby photography - safety! (Click here to learn more about how I'm keeping my studio safe during the Covid 19 pandemic) I've worked one on one with world-renowned newborn photographer, Amy McDaniel of DewDrops Photography, and countless other professionals to learn how to pose babies correctly and ensure that they are 100% safe and happy throughout the session. I regularly invest in in-person workshops to continually advance my education in this field. You can never stop learning!
2) Perfected Editing
My boutique business focuses heavily on quality over quantity. Every session is meticulously pre-planned and made to create beautiful artwork that you'll cherish for a lifetime. I have a soft, neutral, and natural approach to newborn photography that radiates through my photos. I spend hours in post-processing to ensure that every aspect of a photo is perfection before handing anything over to my clients. Imperfections are removed, distractions erased, all while keeping baby looking as natural as possible. I currently teach other professional photographers worldwide how to achieve the look that I produce in my studio.
I have been lucky enough to call myself a Newborn and Family photographer for over 7 years now! I've worked directly with newborns and children for over 15 years and even graduated with my degree in Early Childhood Development and minored in Child Psychology. I have had extensive training in safely posing and photographing newborns. I am fully vaccinated and have your baby's best interest at heart. I have happily and safely photographed hundreds of newborns during my time as a photographer.
4) Client Experience
I want to start off my saying I have the best clients - ever! I really enjoy getting to know you during our time together and making sure that you are heard. Another one of my top goals is to provide you with a wonderful, calm, and easy experience. I pride myself on keeping my clients cool, calm, and collected while trying to photograph young, wiggly, (and sometimes tough!) kiddos. From the booking to your final photos, you're in for a wonderful custom photo experience! Feel free to check out my reviews here and see what other's have to say.
5) The Real Deal
I am a 100% legal business in Charleston, SC! I am fully insured. I pay my taxes, I update my licenses, I make sure everything is recorded to a T! That isn't always the most fun part of the job, but it is essential. Legal businesses pay and work hard to stay legal, up to date, and insured. There are so many photographers in the low country that are running illegal businesses on the regular - only to harm the reputation of some of the low country's most wonderful photographers. If you're reading this here, you're already doing your research on supporting legal small businesses ;)
